چکیده

Cabib and Leloir (2) isolated and characterized guanosine diphosphate (GDP) mannose from bakers’ yeast and postulated that this nucleotide may serve as a donor of mannose residues for the synthesis of polymers which are present in the yeast cell wall. The occurrence of GDP-mannose may be ubiquitous since it has been reported to be present in hen’s oviduct (3), the molds Penicillium chrysogenum (4) and Eremothecium ashbyii (5), the red alga Porphyra perforata (6), guinea pig mammary gland (7), sheep mammary gland (8), and the milk of the sheep, goat, and sow (9). The biosynthesis of GDP-mannose, first reported by Munch-Peterson (lo), was shown to be catalyzed by a pyrophosphorylase from brewers’ yeast (Reaction 1).

Carbohydrate metabolism in streptomycetes. II. Isolation and enzymatic synthesis of trehalose.

A number of streptomycetes were examined for their ability to synthesize trehalose phosphate as well as for the presence of alpha,alpha-trehalose. In each case, an enzyme system was demonstrated which catalyzed the transfer of glucose from guanosine diphosphate-glucose to glucose-6-phosphate to form trehalose phosphate. Thus, this group of organisms appears to synthesize trehalose phosphate by ...

Synthesis of guanosine 5'-diphosphate, 2'-(or 3'-) diphosphate and related nucleotides in a variety of physiological conditions.

The synthesis of guanosine 5’-diphosphate, 2’(or 3’-) diphosphate (ppGpp) and related nucleotides was investigated in Escherichia coti in a variety of physiological conditions. The nucleotides are synthesized immediately following glucose or amino acid starvation or in the presence of cyanide. Nitrogen or sulfur starvation also results in synthesis of these nucleotides but with slower kinetics....

Isolation of uridine 5'-diphosphate L-rhamnose from Salmonella typhimurium.

A nucleotide isolated from a rough mutant of Salmonella typhimurium LT2 has been identified as uridine 5'-diphosphate L-rhamnose on the basis of chemical, enzymatic, and chromatographic analysis. Other nucleotide-linked sugars were isolated from this organism and tentatively identified as cytidine diphosphate abequose, cytidine diphosphate glucose, uridine diphosphate glucose, uridine diphospha...

Biosynthesis of Guanosine Diphosphate D-Rhamnose and Guanosine Diphosphate D-Talomethylose from Guanosine Diphosphate a-*Mannose*

Strain GS, a gram-negative motile bacterium isolated from soil, synthesizes two polysaccharides. The synthesis of a uranic acid-containing polysaccharide is derepressed by high concentrations of Na2SOd, while the synthesis of the polysaccharide containing equal quantities of n-rhamnose and n-talomethylose is repressed by NazS01 (1, 2). L-F’ucose and L-rhamnose are the methylpentoses commonly fo...

Trehalose phosphate synthesis in Streptomyces hygroscopicus: purification of guanosine diphosphate D-glucose: D-glucose-6-phosphate 1-glucosyl-transferase.

Guanosine diphosphate d-glucose:d-glucose-6-phosphate 1-glucosyl-transferase was purified approximately 100-fold from extracts of Streptomyces hygroscopicus. The purified enzyme catalyzed the transfer of glucose from guanosine diphosphate-d-glucose to glucose-6-phosphate to form trehalose phosphate and guanosine diphosphate. The enzyme was specific for these two substrates and was stimulated by...
